Oh yeah – tomorrow is the big night – our company Christmas party! The boss was able to book a private party room at the fancy schmanzy restaurant downtown called The Stockyards. I’ve only been there a couple of times – it is really expensive and the food is delicious. Plus it is a big part of Nashville history – it really was a building used by farmers and ranchers to auction their livestock, back in the day. But it’s been a fancy restaurant for at least 50 years now – where the elite go for an school style dinner, with bathroom attendants and servers wearing white tie!
Last time I went to the Stockyards for dinner, it was a company event – a regional sales meeting with guys who flew in from all over the country. We had the meeting at out office and then everyone went to the restaurant to relax and kick back. The boss called it “bonding” and it was really nice to have time to chat with each of the guys over dinner and get to know them a little better. When you like someone it sure is easier to work with them during the work week.
The Stockyard is all about huge steaks and great vegetable side dishes and for dessert they always offer pecan pie – without homemade ice cream, if you like that. They have a club in the basement with a kickass DJ and huge dance floor. The boss promised an open bar for all of us all night long – so you can bet your sweet ass that there will be some craziness and lots of fun at this party. I can’t wait!
Looking in my closet for a party dress for Saturday night, I came up empty handed. Sure, I have several cute dresses, but I can’t wear the same one that I wore to last year’s party, the other one is too short to wear around the people I work with, and I need something that will be really cute and flashy without being slutty. So I need to go shopping.
Last year I found a lot of really nice tops and jackets at Macy’s. So i guess I will start at Macy’s and see if they have any nice party dresses that so expensive they are out of the budget range of most of the other girls at work. If i don’t like anything there, I’m not sure where else to go. I don’t want to show up at the party in the same dress as anyone else – they would suck ass. So I want to find something nice and unique.
Maybe I should shop online instead of local. If I find something online tonight they can ship it to me and if if doesn’t fit I will still have a couple of days to find something else that I like. The party is next weekend – I am running out of time, and this is important.
When I was kid we had this cool wall hanging that my mom made by hand and put up on the wall on the first day of December. She called it an Advent calendar, and there was a row of little pockets for each week in the month of December. There was a pocket for each day made out of felt, and inside each pocket was a little toy or piece of candy that we could have as we counted down the days until Christmas.
Mom made an advent calendar for each of us kids in different colors and patterns. Stocking each pocket was always done in secret – we never saw her put anything into the pockets or even buy the little goodies while sopping. But every year on the last day of November she would bring out the calendars and hand them on the wall in the living room. Even when we were teenagers, she still put up the calendars and put little goodies in each pocket for us. I always thought that was a special tradition that added to the excitement and anticipation of the holidays.
Now that we are grown and out on our own, the advent calendar isn’t part of our Decembers anymore. I kinda miss that. But I do notice what day it is, and with today being the 5th day of December, that means we are counting down just 20 more days until Christmas. Are you excited?
some days I just hate going to the mailbox and picking up my mail. Especially the first week of the month – that’s when all the fucking bills start showing up. I am so sick of getting nothing but bills in my mailbox. Whatever happened to writing letters and sending postcards and shit? The mail never has any good news in it – just fucking bills and advertising flyers that want you to give them your money, too.
Thank God there is a way to pay most bills online nowadays. If you have a decent bank – and that’s hard to find anymore, seriously! – that offers free online bill pay, you can save a lot of time and even save money on postage if you pay your bills electronically. It takes about 20 minutes to set up all the bills with the right addresses and account numbers, and then its just matter of a few clicks to check your balance and make sure that everything is running smooth with your account each month.
But it would be nice to get some good news in the mail once in a while. Why don’t the businesses send out a little thank you card once in a while and say “Hey, we appreciate your doing business with us!” or maybe a happy birthday card? Would it kill them to do something nice for ME for a change?
Caught the Carson Daly Show last night because I just could not fall asleep. I don’t know why I get these spells of insomnia sometimes. All I can do is turn on the TV and try to zone out eventually. If the TV is on something that is loud or violent, I’ll be up all night. I can’t sleep if people are yelling or screaming or shooting each other. So the talk shows like Letterman or Jimmy Fallon are a better bet if I need help dozing off.
But for some reason the Fallon show was over and I was still wide awake. The Carson Daly Show comes on the same channel as Jimmy Fallon, so I watched that last night. They had a band on that was really good. But I was just falling asleep and not really paying any attention to what he was saying, so I missed the introduction to the band and have no idea who it was.
Anyone know a way to find out what band was featured on the show last night? I’d like to find out more about them and maybe buy their CD. I looked up the show’s Facebook page, but they don’t list the names of the bands. I wish the Facebook page gave more information – how hard can it be to update the fucking FB page each day? Seriously!
