May Your Christmas Be Merry and Bright

December 24, 2011 // Posted in Culture, Music (Tags: , , , , ) |  Comments Off

Years of hearing Christmas carols and piped in Christmas music while shopping have left me a little numb about music this time of year. I just realized that I don’t even the know the words of most carols well enough to get up with a karaoke microphone and do a decent job of singing any of them. How did that happen? You hear them year after year, but you never really listen to the words and try to sing them on your own. Maybe I should learn at least one or two carols – keep them in my pocket until I need them.

What Its Like

One of my favorite songs by Everlast is called, “What It’s Like” and I was really happy to find it on Spotify today. I added it to my playlist. What I didn’t know until today was that they have several different versions of the song and the only one I ever heard was the clean, radio edit. The Spotify selections included a longer, explicit version. Of course, that’s the one that I wanted to hear!

The thrill is gone

Thee is a great song by B. B. King called, “The Thrill is Gone.” I never really listened to the words before. It was one of those songs you’ve heard many times but didn’t really pay attention to. Until you are having problems with a certain someone. And now all of a sudden, I love that song.

Music and Trivia

One of my favorite web sites – in the Top 10, for sure – is the Pandora.com free music site. This is like a personal jukebox on your laptop or PC. I love the way you can select a type of music and then discover a variety of similar artists and bands.

You also get to read little bits of trivia, easily click through to the lyrics and can download any of the songs played from iTunes, usually for only 99 cents. I love this siteĀ  and you can listen for free to 30 hours, or pay a very small fee and get unlimited hours of music to calm you, motivate you or inspire you.

New Music

Something I just now realized – I must have been living under a ROCK! – is that Amazon gives you a free music download every day. That is not only great for introducing people to new music, it is a great way to get people to come to your web site every day. I don’t do it every day, but I have grabbed several good songs for free and hope they keep doing this – I love FREE!
