Who decided that hamburgers should be served with french fires? Why did french fries become the standard side? Why not potato salad? Or potato chips? Or a piece of fruit? I have to stop eating french fries because they are fattening and have a lot of cholesterol. Do you have any idea how hard it is to order food at a drive through and not get french fries with your order?

Summer Salads

There are so many delicious summer salads that make an excellent side dish – especially if you are grilling out. There is nothing like a big bowl of potato salad to go along with a fresh grilled hamburger. Or a wonderful pasta salad to go along with grilled salmon. Or how about a nice macaroni salad to go with those barbecued ribs?
I’m going to head for the kitchen right now and make some kind of pasta salad. I don’t know what all I will put in it until I see what fresh veggies are still in the refrigerator. But I can guarantee at least some chopped Vidalia onion and black olives!
More Seafood

This year I want to try more seafood. I just realized that I have not had much of any seafood for a long time. I used to love to eat blue crab and oysters. Lobsters were for special occasions. And shrimp was something you could splurge on once a month or so. But it makes a difference if you live on a coast where fresh seafood is plentiful. Around here, you have to buy most of it previously frozen or just go out of town for fresh seafood.
Warm Cookies

Had the munchies for something sweet, so I grabbed a bag of Nestle chocolate chips and followed the recipe printed on the back to whip up a batch of toll house cookie dough. I baked two dozen and set aside the rest for another night.
Now we are settling in for a movie accompanied by warm baked chocolate chip cookies and a cold glass of milk. Yumm!
Too Many Choices

We have had a rash of grocery stores coming and opening up in our town. We used to only have Food Lion, Martins and Walmart, but now we have a Giant, Safeway, Bloom, Harris Teeter and another one that I can’t ever remember the name of, but it is only 4 letters and starts with a D. Of course there is always Costco but I don’t like buying in bulk and don’t like dishing out over $200 each trip.
I don’t like having to bounce all around comparison shopping for the best deal. I’ll just stick with Food Lion for the most part. I like the store and the employees all know me by now and are very nice, helpful and friendly each and every time I go there.
